How to choose an interior designer

Review projects similar to your space, intended use and level of detail. Ask which images are design visualizations, which are completed photographs and which show construction in progress. A strong image helps you understand a direction; it does not establish who delivered the building or furniture.

A design appointment can cover planning, material direction, 3D views and agreed drawings. Ask for an itemized delivery list rather than relying on the phrase “complete design”. Confirm which rooms are covered, the drawing types, output formats, review stages and revision allowance.

• Who provides and checks site measurements?
• Which dimensions and details are issued to the maker?
• Are editable source files included, or are they separately agreed?
• Who coordinates engineering, purchasing, installation and site work?

Establish one route for feedback and approvals. Ask how the team records material selections, open decisions and changes after approval. You should understand what you need to approve before the next stage, and how additional work affects the fee and programme.

Compare the same rooms, drawings, visuals and responsibilities across proposals. Keep design, furniture, shipping and construction allowances distinct. A lower figure may describe a smaller service; a longer list is useful only when it matches what you need.
